The Library Board of Trustees has commissioned Engberg Anderson to design an expanded or new public library for the city. Initial site evaluations, site selection and conceptual design will be completed this fall using a series of community based workshops. The project is envisioned as a 30,000 sf facility and is programmed around the library's longstanding tradition of children's prgramming and community service. These areas continue to be central to the library's mission as defined in the library's 2009 Strategic Plan. Features will include group activity spaces, a technology commons, retail style browsing areas and activity zones for adults, teens, tweens and young readers. RFID-based technologies including express check-out and auto sorting systems are anticipated in the project. Site studies will integrate the library's strategic goals and facility needs with the Comprehensive Plan being developed by the City of Platteville.
